How the RV solar calculator works
The calculator adds up the amp hours your appliances draw from a 12-volt battery bank each day. DC items such as lights, water pumps and fans are counted directly; 120 V items such as microwaves and TVs are converted to 12 V amps with inverter losses included. The total is adjusted for the season you travel in and multiplied by your trip length, then compared with the usable capacity of your batteries. From that daily figure it recommends a Go Power! roof-mounted or portable solar kit, an expansion panel if you already have solar, and an inverter sized from your largest 120 V appliance.
