PRODUCT DETAILS

The Dometic SC-DB-MPPT-40-12 is a 40-amp MPPT solar charge controller built for 12V RV systems with two battery banks, handling up to 900W of panels and charging a house bank plus a chassis battery (up to 2.5A) from one unit. It is native to the PowerTrak™ RV-C network — configure profiles and watch solar, battery and inverter data on the PowerTrak™ touchscreen — stacks up to eight controllers for large arrays, is UL 1741 listed, and carries a 5-year warranty with a North American support team (part of Dometic). Choose the controller alone or the kit with the PowerTrak™ display, 25 ft harness and terminating resistor.

Built to the standard RV manufacturers install

Go Power! has designed mobile power since 1996 and is the solar brand fitted at the factory by Jayco, Forest River, Thor and other leading RV builders. The Dometic SC-DB-MPPT series is the controller specified on PowerTrak™-equipped coaches: UL 1741 listed, FCC Class B, RoHS, with a 96 Voc PV input, -40°C to 40°C operating range without derating, and common-negative grounding that matches factory wiring. Part of Dometic.

One controller, both banks

The primary output charges the house bank at full current; the secondary output maintains the chassis or engine battery at up to 2.5A (adjustable), so the starting battery stays ready through weeks of storage. Single bank? Use the primary output only.

Part of the PowerTrak™ system

Connected to the PowerTrak™ display over RV-C, the controller shares real-time solar watts, charge current and battery state with Go Power! Advanced Lithium batteries and SSW/ASW/AIC inverters, and settings — battery type, secondary current, profiles — are made on the touchscreen. Bluetooth monitoring in the Go Power! Connect app is available through the display; the controller alone has no app connection.

Grows with your roof

Up to eight controllers stack on one bank over the PowerTrak™ branch connector (GP-RVC-PT-BC) for arrays to 7,200W, and 96V open-circuit input lets you wire panels in series for long runs. Up to 98% conversion efficiency pulls the most from every panel.

Which model?

40A covers 600–900W of roof solar in one controller and adds UL 1741 listing for installs that require it. For smaller arrays, the Dometic 30A has the same PowerTrak™ integration at a lower price. Need 24V or no PowerTrak™ display? See the GP-RVC-30-MPPT.

WHAT IT RUNS

Sizing guide for a 12V system: a 40A controller handles about 900W of panels. Daily harvest uses the same rule as our RV solar calculator: about 30Ah per 100W per day in spring and summer, 12Ah in fall and winter. MPPT lets you wire panels in series for less voltage drop and better low-light harvest — keep total open-circuit voltage under 96V. Use 8 AWG between controller and battery.

FAQ
Controller only or the display kit — which do I need?

Buy the controller alone if your coach already has a PowerTrak™ display or you are happy with LED status and settings made at install. Choose the kit if you want to see solar, battery and inverter data on a 3" touchscreen, change battery profiles, and use Bluetooth monitoring in the Go Power! Connect app — the app connects through the display, not the controller.

How does the dual bank output work?

The primary output charges the house bank at full current with the selected profile. The secondary output trickle-charges the chassis or engine battery at up to 2.5A (adjustable) so it stays ready in storage. For a single bank, use the primary output only.

How much solar can I connect to the 40A controller?

Up to 900W of panels at 12V with open-circuit voltage under 96V — up to nine 100W panels or four 200W panels in series or parallel. Beyond that, stack a second controller on the same bank over the PowerTrak™ branch connector.

Does it work with lithium batteries?

Yes. Select the lithium profile on the PowerTrak™ display (temperature compensation is disabled automatically for lithium). With Go Power! Advanced Lithium batteries on the same RV-C network, the system shares true state of charge.

Is it UL listed?

Yes — UL 1741, plus FCC Part 15 Class B and RoHS.

Can I use it on a 24V system?

No — the SC-DB series is for 12V systems. For 24V, see the Go Power! GP-RVC-30-MPPT.

What wire gauge and fuse do I need?

8 AWG from the primary output to the house bank with a 50A fuse at the battery, 10 AWG with a 10A fuse to the chassis battery, and 8–10 AWG from the array depending on run length. Connect batteries before panels when commissioning.

MPPT or PWM — which do I need?

PWM is a switch: it connects the panel to the battery and chops the current, so the panel runs at battery voltage and you lose the difference. MPPT converts the panel's higher voltage into extra charge current, harvesting 15–30% more from the same panels, and lets you wire panels in series. For one or two panels on a simple 12V kit, PWM is cost-effective; for 300W or more, lithium batteries, or long cable runs, MPPT pays for itself.

Is Go Power! the controller installed in my RV from the factory?

Very likely, if your coach is a Jayco, Forest River, Thor or many other brands. Go Power! has supplied RV manufacturers since 1996 and its PWM and MPPT controllers are the ones specified on factory solar-prep and solar-equipped coaches, so this is the like-for-like replacement or upgrade.

What's the warranty?

Five years against defects in materials and workmanship, backed by a North American support team (part of Dometic). Register the product after purchase.
